Root / Flash HTC Desire Z / Vision

It’s not been too long since HTC Desire Z / Vision came on the market. Definitely another amazing HTC device! (according to users). A senior member at XDA Android forums recently discovered an easy way to root and flash HTC Vision or Desire Z (EU / US version). It’s an easy guide including some steps which would help you easily root your device.

1. Download VISIONary + R12 rooting app (link provided at the bottom or scan QR).

2. Download a File Explorer (if don’t have one, EStrongs or Astro are recommended).

3. Go to settings > Applications, check ‘unknown sources’ and uncheck ‘Fast Boot’

4. Tap ‘Development’ and check ‘USB debugging’

5. Press the Back button twice

6. Install downloaded VISIONary from file explorer

7. Leave all options unchecked in VISIONary

8. Tap ‘TempRoot Now’, and let the process complete

9. Tap ‘Attempt PermRoot Now!’ (allow SuperUser Permissions, once pop-up appears)

10. Wait for the phone to reboot on its own.

Congratulations, you have successfully rooted your Desire Z / Vision. To check if you’re device has been rooted or not, simply go to apps and look for an app called ‘SuperUser’.

Download by scanning the QR Code.

  1. It’s weird that it tells me it’s (temp-)rooting my device, but after +/- 10sec it blacks out, though the phone keeps reacting to my finger (dimmed screen -> relighting). I tried it with and without flightmode, but reacts the same.

Other functionalities are still available by pressing the home button, but it is SLOW like..-fill in yourself-..
Maybe I’ve got to wait a little longer, but with 5min waiting the first time, and 15min waiting the 2nd time, I don’t know for sure if it’s me or the phone..
It does not display an app called SuperUser in my applist aswell.

    The phone is an HTC-Desire-HD
    Android version 2.2.1 (FroYo?)
    S/w Number: 1.72.405.3
    Non simlocked

If someone can help me with this, I would appreciate it very much.. I wanted an OpenSource OS on my phone so I could COMPLETELY personalize it, but I can’t even remove the Facebook/Twitter/Peep apps, which I don’t use anyway and eat away battery power like HELL..

Mail (if allowed) [email protected] to get in contact with me, as I don’t dare to PermROOT it before it bricks..
Thanks in advance ppl, keep up the good work!
